Taylor's Medical students take second place at Intervarsity Medic Olympiad

A team of four students from the Taylor’s University School of Medicine went home as first runners-up at the annual Intervarsity Medic Olympiad (IMO) competition, held at Universiti Teknologi MARA, Sungai Buloh. IMO was created to motivate students to strive for a deeper and better understanding of basic science in pre-clinical and clinical medical science.

Students in their pre-clinical phase of their medical degree were invited to participate in the competition. This year, the event saw participation of 90 medical students from 11 medical schools within Malaysia and 23 teams, including Lincoln University, MAHSA University, Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Univerisy Kuala Lumpur (Royal College of Medicine Perak), International Islamic University Malaysia, University Malaya and University College Shahputra.

Teh E-Yang, Melissa Phua, Amanda Hong and Ong Tze Han made it through the preliminary round along with University Malaya, Univerisy Kuala Lumpur (Royal College of Medicine Perak) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia. The final round was a battle against University Malaya, of which the champion was determined by a narrow win. Overall, it was a tough competition, in which our students had to answer more than 150 questions encompassing various medical disciplines including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology and Parasitology.
